Debate ahoy!

We agree wholeheartedly, being honest. Irish artists should be prioritised on the airwaves.

This is why I switched from regular RTE 2FM to 2XM, because there is less of that sexualized pop/r ‘n’ b tripe, and more independent talented artists, from all over Ireland. The mainstream media really need to open their eyes, and see that they are spearheading this sex orientated/violent side of music. Supermarkets have even started playing covers of them too including the horrendous Cher Lloyd, and the one-dimensional One Direction. Listening to that drivel twenty hours a week isn’t healthy.

More Irish independent artists on the radio-waves, and less commercial pop music!

There should be an obligation for the radio stations to play Irish music beyond the specialist shows; there’re enough bands across genres to justify it, beyond playing U2 and Snow Patrol to fill the quota. The sexualisation of commercial pop’s a straw man argument, though – folk thought Elvis’ hip-swinging scandalous back in the 50s. Even if the criticism was true, it’s not the right argument to promote, say, a commercial-sounding Irish pop-rock or dance act over Lady Gaga and Nicky Minaj.

I didn’t realise Jack Thompson was targeting music now
