Tiny Magnetic Pets, Return Of The Tiny Magnetic Pets
Has no one else noticed that there are way too many of these “electro rock” bands? And that none of them are any good? Anybody? No? Well, I wish I could say that Tiny Magnetic Pets are different, but then I’d be a liar. Tiny Magnetic Pets (Sean Quinn and Paula Gilmer) rather overtly worship [...]

Tiny Magnetic Pets (Sean Quinn and Paula Gilmer) rather overtly worship at the altar of The Prodigy, not that they sound like them but influence is strongly present. However, when you take such influence from such a crap band the likelihood of your band being any different is well, low. Harsh? Perhaps, but it’s quite true.
The openers Templehof and I Wasn’t Here describe quite visibly the same old same old that Return Of The Tiny Magnetic Pets is going to deliver. Singer, Gilmer, is by no means a bad singer, she just doesn’t add to anything to this concoction.
Fans of this kind of music might just lap this album up. But, from where I’m standing Return Of The Tiny Magnetic Pets just another flash in the pan
Boom Boom Boom is possibly the most un-listenable song you’ll ever encounter. Yep, it’s that bad. The downhill exertion continues on Control Me. Faraway Sea rises in momentum slightly, but only slightly mostly due to the beats being a little less tedious.
Spinning spews out the same stuff from earlier and plods seamlessly into Each Star I Pass and Spaced, each bores, the latter nearly rivalling Boom Boom Boom in its gormlessness.
Geraniums is a pointless and inconclusive ender serving nothing worthwhile, or to even just say “hey the album’s finished”. It’s just Gilmer crooning out a few notes and that’s it and the dire electronics gnawing on your ears doesn’t help matters.
I think I’ve made it vividly clear how I feel about this album and this particular style. Fans of this kind of music might just lap this album up. But, from where I’m standing Return Of The Tiny Magnetic Pets just another flash in the pan. Same shit, different band – next.

hey dude – i can’t disagree with your review more…heard the band live on Paul McCloone show on Today fm where they were ‘album of the week’ by the way, so picked up the album and have to say its bloody brilliant…and i dont hear much Prodigy influence more bowie, la roux thang going on….lovin control Me & Girl In White Dress…8/10 from me!
I was told this album was Krautrock.
Its actually Eurovision Rock.Bad music and bad vocals.I found this album up in my local Oxfam shop when read the press release included, I decided to try it.I am German and my wife from Iceland so we very much admire our bands such as Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream,Bjork,Sigur Ros etc. This electronic sound is equivilent to presets on a bad synth.Synths were used by German bands to try to escape from all that had gone on in our country, musically and politicily.to create something new that had not been heard before. The music and songs here are poor imatation of the great writers.Sorry but it is actually same shit different band.
