Time Stops For The Kinetiks
Posted on September 18, 2009 by Nay
Indie band The Kinetiks have announced their decision to finish as a band. After three years of ‘short story’ blog updates, on Wednesday a touching conclusion was posted by Gaz Harding on the band’s MySpace:
“I’m not going to drag this out, make it dramatic or over egg it, I understand that although this is massive news in my tiny world, it’s probably not in yours.
No-ones to blame, their was no big show down just different people wanting different things from their lives and what’s wrong with that.
The earth continues to spin much to my shock.
There were tears, hugs and bums were squeezed, but that’s it.
I haven’t had my heart broken in a while; I forgot how when Ur in this frame of mind, every song that comes on the radio feels like it was written specifically for u and ur situation. Every cheesy lyric and stupid chorus has extra resonance….(except for that Black Eyed Peas tune about going out, that’s just a great tune that makes me wanna go out and party)
Hello heartbreak my old friend, it’s been a while.
Thanks for listening, caring and investing in us, even if it was just to come on here and see how we were doing every once in a while.
Thanks to those people who helped us out over the last number of years, bands, promoters, dj’s, producers, photographers, journo’s, the various publications who have been so kind to us, and of course friends and family.
A new project has been discussed and has already begun, so watch this space…. well not this space…. but A space.
Peace out, I’m off to dream it all up again.”
The Kinetiks formed in North Dublin in 2005 and released two EPs: High Horse Olympics and Aye Aye Aye with several singles. Fronted by Gary Harding on guitar and vocals, guitarist Sean Brennan, bassist Jim McGuirk and drummers Jon McIntyre, followed by Paul Donohue, enjoyed considerable success on the Irish indie-pop circuit with their catchy, friendly singles gathering a huge amount of exposure amongst indie fans, pushing the band towards a regular slew of gigs and appearances. Signed to Crashed Records, an off-shoot of the label that manages Luke Kelly, Ronnie Drew and The Dubliners‘ vast catalogue, the band were an example of the evolving nature of Irish rock’n'roll. They were due to play Hard Working Class Heroes again this year and trod stages at Oxegen, Cois Fharraige, Castle Palooza and headlined the IMRO Showcase, scooping a nomination for a Meteor award along the way.
Unfortunately band splits are not rare but it’s always saddening to see a group of friends call it a day. Good luck to the guys with all their future projects.
