“..fans of post-rock will love it, praising the overuse of dynamics, and electronics along with heavy guitar riffs and exploding drums.”

It’s unlikely that you will ever find a band like This Will Destroy You, a four piece post-rock/ambient band from America. They demonstrate that music can be beautiful without the use of words through electronic and acoustic elements of instrumentation. Their new album, Tunnel Blanket which was released in Europe on May 9th is their second album, their first being their self titled debut “This Will Destroy You“, which recieved great reviews and critical acclaim around the world of post-rock, along with their three EPs, which were equally successful, especially their first one “Young Mountain“.

From the first track onwards, it seems like This Will Destroy You have taken a different approach to Tunnel Blanket, giving more emphasis on the ambient side of their band, which is not a bad thing at all. The first track, “Little Smoke”, remains the heaviest track on the album. During the 11 minute track, the band starts off with soft instrumentation, then two minutes in, they literally explode into a heavier, more noisy progression that intensifies as it continues.

The third track, “Communal Blood” is the first single released from the album Tunnel Blanket, which is a mixture of ambiance, drone and post-rock. It’s slightly less heavier than the first track, but it sounds really good all the same. Other tracks include Black Dunes, another combination of dynamics and heavy emphasis on drums and guitar, and Reprise, a slow ambiance based instrumental that soothes and relaxes the listener.

There’s no doubt about it, This Will Destroy You’s new album is a facemelter, and hopefully a huge success when its released worldwide May 10th. Fans of post-rock will love it, praising the overuse of dynamics, and electronics along with heavy guitar riffs and exploding drums. Those who haven’t been in contact with post-rock yet, may want to hear their first EP, Young Mountain, as it is a truly phenomenal concoction of EPIC, when it comes to post-rock. The album itself is great, however their self-titled debut album triumphs, but I’ll let you be the judge of that.

Tunnel Blanket is out now in Europe, and can be streamed in full, as well as a few downloadable tracks through Soundcloud using the link below.
