Talons/Noumenon Announce Split CD Single
Big Scary Monsters this week have unveiled a post-rock split with an intercontinental bent.
The wonder of a split single. Marrying two geographically, historically and musically different bands through the power of a simple little CD. The beginning stages of a beautiful friendship and the introduction to a brand new audience for the hungry, young artists. Talons from Hereford; meet Noumenon of Chicago.
To those yet to discover the 6 piece, dual-violin lead Talons, you’re in for a treat. Their unashamed exploration of instrumental post-rock, incorporating crushing guitar riffs, uplifting, joyous highs and dramatic, Apocalyptic lows, shows a brave sense of willingness, not usually found in a band so shy of years, and has already won them a cult fanbase in the UK underground music scene. Over the past few months they’ve released their debut 7″ single, ‘The Pearl’, and a split single, ‘Bethlehem’, with Ireland’s And So I Watch You From Afar, as well as sharing the stage with Manchester Orchestra, 65 Days of Static, Rolo Tomassi and Pulled Apart By Horses amongst many others. Now, ahead of their UK tour later this month supporting the wonderful Three Trapped Tigers, Talons contribute live favourite ’Anthropods’ to this split CD, the first new recording with vocalist Tom Woodhead. Look out for their debut album, set for release in late 2010
Chicago is a city with an impressive math rock CV and Noumenon could just be the perfect band to continue that legacy. Taking the complex rhythm changes so closely associated with the genre and - after a couple of minutes building - fires them up to dizzying speeds, creating a furious rollercoaster of an ending. ’Pimpin Zenith Part II’ is a song as intriguing and engrossing as the title. This is the bands first UK release and will be followed by a new, 5 track digital only EP on May 3rd.
