Yesterday, we featured Cork neo-classical project/occasional live concern north side drive and made note of a slight crossover between its melodic tendencies and the classical idiom.
Twin Lights, the brainchild of CSM alum Tim Fitzgerald, is a closely-related project, having shared the stage with Pearson and cohorts, and sharing the traits of classical music, albeit with a more contemporary twist.
Can’t See Straight sees a lot of strands of musical thought hang loose around each other: sparklingly pretty keys dance in a stately fashion atop dense, almost shoegazey minor-key accompaniment while glitchy percussion goes off gently around it. Parts glazed-over, downbeat blissed-out pop and thoughtful post-rock, it stands out as a wonderful, layered work.
A remarkable musical achievement and one that bodes well for this guy’s future output. More, please.
