Sharing their homeland with the likes of Nightwish, Children Of Bodom and classical virtuosos Apocalyptica, some goodness must have rubbed off on them. Then again, we can’t rule out Finland’s answer to Michael Flatfoot: Lordi. Thankfully there’s no rubber masks insight. Flatley has the monopoly on those.

revengine1So some investigation was required, and the official band’s site is informative. “We come from Finland, Scandinavia and we play multiflavored ass-kicking rock with attitude.” Clearly, devotion to their art cannot be questioned. So let’s have a listen.

I quite liked this, each song individually has its own merits but, i’m afraid to say, the whole CD just doesn’t seem to gel together

This is a four track promotional CD simply titled, “Promo II“. For a band that aren’t signed Im pretty impressed with the production on all of these tracks. Usage of a number of studios effects work really well rather than having to reply the lame old budget recording “lets stick some phase on this bit, trust me, it’ll sound killer”.

The three musicians are all very proficient. Each of the four songs seems to head off in a different direction though. The Wait and Yet Here We Are are written in a familiar slow, clean verse followed with the expected heavy chorus. Well written but nothing I haven’t heard before. The song that stood out for me was Disco BS. Apart from the unfortunate title, this could have appeared on an early Sacred Reich release, although I’m sure their influence for the song probably some from a more Metallica direction.revengine2

I quite liked this, each song individually has its own merits but, I’m afraid to say, the whole CD just doesn’t seem to gel together. One of the comments on their website seemed to tie it all up nicely: “With our music we offer 31 flavors instead of one.” I couldn’t agree more, but developing your own flavor might be the key here.

Drop-d Rating 7/10
