Drop-d: HelloDrop-d: How are you?
Chris : I’m well!
Drop-d: What’s happening?
Chris : 2009 has been the fastest year of my life. Ive been feeling alot of needed growing pain’s and Im loving every bit of it. Cant believe its October!
Drop-d: What’s been happening since the debut album came out?
Chris : A lot of re-shaping in how the music is played and basically gelling with the new band member setup.
Drop-d : You won quite a lot of critical acclaim for it, has it added much pressure for the new record?
Chris : We don’t feel any pressure at all really. We just do what we do and that’s it really. For me personally, this is the first Reader’s Wives album that I’ve been fully involved with so its a brand new platform for me to work with and Im just enjoying and not worrying too much.
Drop-d : So, do you just not let thoughts like that enter the creative process?
Chris : Exactly, we don’t let thoughts like that enter the creative process. You’re reading my mind!
Drop-d: On the EP will we be treated to more gems like Are You Coming For A Drink After Work, Princess? and The Pot’s Still Boiling On The Stove? Tell us everything about the new EP.
Chris : The new EP is a collection of old songs Niall had written over the years. They are a really good stepping stone that points towards the new album that’s been recorded at the moment
Drop-d: So the name….. are you as classy as the porno magazine you take your name from?
Chris : Of course. Kind of thought we would of gotten sponsorship from Playboy by now ..Oh well
Drop-d : Do you now, or have you ever in the past, owned a copy of said porno magazine and if yes, would you encourage your wife to appear in such a tasteful and quality magazine?
Chris : I’m from the internet generation so I never really bothered to pay for porn. When I know who my wife will be, I’ll answer your other question.
Drop-d: You’ve got a battle on your hands though because said porno magazine will always be on top in a Google search, or maybe that’s why you’ve called Reader’s Wives?
Chris : I know when Niall choose the name many moons ago, the last thing he was probably thinking of was the google search. He choose the name simply because its a good band name
Drop-d: So what would you say if someone asked you to describe the band in one word?
Chris : Honest
Drop-d : And also one sentence?
Chris : It’s band based upon friendship and new ideas
Drop-d: Niall has been called Dublin’s answer to Morrissey, God there’s enough depressed people in our nations capital, surely to Jaysus one Morrissey’s enough for the world. Credit where credits due and all, he’s a talented man but Niall ain’t that hardcore is he?
Chris : Niall is heterosexual. I think the world needs a heterosexual Morrissey.
Drop-d: Best pint of stout in Dublin?
Chris : Pint of guinness in Brogans, Dame St.
Drop-d: Looking forward to getting your gig on again?
Chris : Every gig so far has been exciting and new so yeah totally!
Drop-d : Where you playing next?
Chris : Next line of gigs are in the UK in November and next Dublin show is in Odessa on the 21st of that same month.
Drop-d : Where’s the best place to play in Ireland?
Chris : Vicar st. Probably the best venue in Europe
Drop-d: Where are you more at home, the studio or on stage?
Chris : Both equally
Drop-d: How do the songs come about? Jam band or is there a head bottle-washer?
Chris : The latest songs have been jammed out and then usually Niall jots down lyrics to go over the music.
Drop-d: Give me your best and worst things about the Irish music scene.
Chris : The best thing would have to be the amount of young talent that’s sprouting up everywhere and the worst thing would have to be the lack of genuine financial support to nurture these potentially great acts.
Drop-d: What bands/soloists out there, grafting, have caught your ear lately?
Chris : I’ve been listening to miles davis for the last month, I’m probably not the best one to ask that question
Drop-d: The Irish music scene’s in a healthy state, discuss. Yeay or nay?
Chris : As I mentioned before, any money that’s been spent to help Irish acts progress needs to be seriously reviewed. I feel it can be spent more wisely.
Drop-d: What’s next for the band?
Chris : The gigs I was talking about. And to complete the album
Drop-d: Any plans for world domination or would you prefer to bring peace to the world though your music?
Chris : I’m in touch with Osama Bin Laden. He wants to collaborate on a tune. That’s all I’ll say for now.
