Pledge, A Tribute To Kerbdog

Posted on February 21, 2010 by Paul Groome

It’s a shame really.  I remember seeing these lads from Kilkenny when they supporting Megadeth in the SFX years ago.  Perhaps a little bit of a mismatched lineup, it was still a proud moment to have one of our own playing ahead of Corrosion Of Conformity on the bill.  And now this is the final hurrah it seems.

Pledge, A Tribute to Kerbdog

One final fist in the air from a whole bunch of bands that not only admire Kerbdog and bask in their influence but, in some cases, shamelessly helped themselves to some five finger discounts in the form of riffs and vocal melodies.

It’s true what they say though:  imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

The collection of tunes really does present a band that never really reached their full popularity potential, with tunes like Severed (Left Side Brain) and Pledge (Cars On Fire).

These were songs that reflected the same angst ridden music of the early to mid 1990s that several other bands were achieving.  Schism is one of my favorites though. Recorded by Stations, they take the heavier side of the music and expand on it. And Oceans Bottom Nightwares reworking of On The Turn is just stunning.  As good as they are though, all of these covers simply reinforce how good the originals are.

For any fans of Kerbdog, I’m sure you own this already and know what Im talking about.  Íf not you better buy it. For any of you who have had even a vague fleeting interest in Kerbdog, you should have a listen to this.  For any of you who are members of Kerbdog, pick up the phone and call the other two members and read out the following:

“Hey.  So, let’s reform the band, lads.  Drop-d really want us to, and that’s good enough reason for me”.

Try it.  It’ll work.
