Occupy Cork Benefit Gig @ The Roundy
The occupation of South Mall continues, and Cork music rallies behind with a fundraiser.
In spite of a disappointing initial turnout, Occupy Cork has bolstered itself with a consistent presence in the city’s financial quarter, earning public sympathy and respect in the process, forming a clear-cut manifesto and going about fundraising activities, including a gig Thursday next week at the Roundy. Stanley Super 800 will be making a rare live appearance, supported by Annette Buckley and Aaron Dillon. It’s a freebie, but contributions are of course encouraged.

The Roundy in association with mutantspace arts skills exchange will host an evening of top music & slamming on Thursday November 10 to raise awareness and funds for Occupy Cork.
A month on and still going strong, Occupy Cork is hoping for a better future! This is about taking back power and public space and creating an environment for real participatory democracy.
With 1,500 sister occupations all over the world made up of many nationalities, the movement is inspired by solidarity, together making a stand at local level and as part of an autonomous global collective action.
Performing on the night are Stanley Super 800, Annette Buckley and Aaron Dillon with punk poet, Wasps vs Humans as MC.Stanley Super 800 are a four-piece indie-rock band from Cork. Their live shows explode with vigorous energy unleashing some of the most original sounds heard since the invention of the ear! Released on Irish Independent label, Sofa Records,the band’s last album, “Louder and Clearer” was nominated for a Choice Music Award in 2007.
Annette Buckley, is no stranger to the Cork live scene.Having recently supported the likes of Imelda May, Duke Special and Jack L, she has also recorded a duet of her song “Whirlwind” with UK Singer/Songwriter Jamie Lawson. Last month, Annette released her new E.P “Where No one Can Find Me”
Originally from Drogheda, Cork-based songwriter, Aaron Dillon has worked and performed across the Globe. From Brazil, Sri Lanka, Paraguay and Tanzania to Denmark, The US and Australia.
Wasps vs Humans is a FULL ON one man show, featuring poetry, rhythms, songs & slamming! A commentary based style observing snap shots of life: political and humorous, his take on the world is delivered with a growl and a smile. August saw the release of his first book, ‘Sustain your Ability to Satisfy’.
Doors are open at 9pm. This is a FREE gig, however donations are encouraged!
