51pRF-jaD-L._SL500_AA280_It’s interesting to hear an album from places in the world that you wouldn’t normally expect a metal album to be created.  I don’t mean that to sound narrow minded, but to hear an album with the quality of production and arrangement that Need from Greece have put their name to, I wonder if there’s an untapped well of metal talent in this country we rarely hear much about, musically.  This album is just buzzing with ideas and influences.  From beginning to end.  They’re tighter than a really tight thing. Drawing on influences from some of the heavier end of the spectrum.  Songs like Flesh Machines echo the driving rhythm force Pantera, while Siamese God possibly some of melodic side of the new metal genre.  But thankfully this isn’t overplayed. Their use of sampling is refreshing and is thoughtfully arranged within the structure of their tunes, with the vocals complimenting them nicely. Rather than the typical screamy, shouty vocals, they’re sounding more hard rock than metal.

The one downside throughout some of the songs, is that the climax that the listener is brought to can be cut short.  Rather than these of the songs twist and turn to an exhausting level. Yet they still play to their strengths and have clearly mastered the careful art of ‘The Heavy Breakdown’.  That part in the song that drops to a primal, throbbing rhythm begging you to at least nod your head has been blended well with their style.  These guys are rhythm masters rather than guitar virtuosos.  But who needs lead guitar wizardry to enjoy a good metal album?  Not while I’m listening to this, I don’t!  Roadrunner should be taking an interest in these fellas.
