“…a magnificent musical journey that stimulates the mind, and amazes the soul at the same time.”

Maybeshewill is a four person post-rock/math/electronic instrumental band from the United Kingdom, formed in 2005, known for their strict adherence to DIY music ethics, and are often compared to 65daysofstatic and Mogwai, two other successful British post-rock bands. Their brand new album I Was Here For A Moment, Then I Was Gone is set to release today, and will be their third studio album along with Not For Want Of Trying and Sing The Word Hope In Four Part Harmony.

This album differs slightly from their previous ones, as there is more emphasis on electronic synth, and there are minimal vocals, unlike their previous album. The moment you press play, you’ll hear a piano solo, slowly building up to the second track Take This To Heart, which starts with a fast paced drum and guitar passage, rolling towards an explosive conclusion, and light-speeding towards the next track in sequence. Post-rock doesn’t come in a better flavor than this. Especially if you are a post-rock noob.

Maybeshewill is known as a band that makes you think, a feature utilized to its full potential in their debut album Not For Want Of Trying with a very idealistic vocal passage from the movie “Station”. It seems that they have made a different move in I Was Here For A Moment, Then I Was Gone, leaving behind their idealistic track names and vocal samples, and moving on to something which can be described as, outstanding. The way the band combines the increased electronics with thrashing drums and facemelting riffs is both impressive and effective throughout the album. It’s a magnificent musical journey that stimulates the mind, and amazes the soul at the same time. I definitely recommend that you pick I Was Here For A Moment, Then I Was Gone up from your local record store, or digital download. You sure as hell won’t regret it.

The entire album is available to listen to right now via the Soundcloud widget below this review. Also, if you’re really into Maybeshewill, they are playing live at The Crane Lane Theatre in Cork, May 15th, and Twisted Pepper in Dublin, May 16th!

Drop-D Rating: 10/10
