It"s been a busy old couple of months for Jaded Sun with the band having
just finished recording the follow up the widely acclaimed debut "RAW EP".
The man at the helm in the studio for the recording of the new "Blueblood
EP" was non other than the highly rated Meteor Music Award nominee
producer Chris O"Brien and I caught up with the lads shortly before they
were due onstage in the Temple Bar Music Centre.

The bands full line"up finally came together in mid 2002 and since then
word on the street is that these guys have been labelled with the "next
big thing" tag. Having received a copy of the "RAW EP" a couple of months
ago I wouldn"t have been entirely agreeable with the next big thing
statement but the lads kindly sent me one of their pre"masters of their
follow up EP to cast my discerning ears on before I met up with them and
without doubt their new EP has a very explosive and in your face sound to
it which clearly elevates them above other bands at their level.

"Things have been going very well for us" muses Sean Gosker "we"re really
happy with our new EP and our label "amp" management are really excited about
it too" and it certainly seems that way as their the EP launch due in
early November will be launched not in one city not even in two cities but
over five in Europe namely Dublin" Derry" Glasgow" Cardiff" London and
Paris. "It"s great for our moral that our label are that committed to us
they are giving us the opportunity to do this big launch" agreeing Kelly
enthuses "it is a great opportunity and one that I don"t think a lot of
bands in Dublin have had the chance at doing".

Asked how the press has been responding to the band Stafford replies
"We"ve also been getting a little bit of press "amp" radio lately" we even
came on top of a download chart in a Dublin paper and we were contending
with the likes of Coldplay "amp" Jeff Buckley so we were well chuffed with
that one" Sean continues "sadly though it seems allot of bands have to go
away in order to get any level of success"" the band on a whole come
across very determined and it doesn"t look like they"ll be taking no for
an answer and it"s something that John Maher confirms for me very quickly
when asked about their live shows "we think rehearsal and having as best a
live show as possible is really important" John continues to drive his
point home by stating " if a person is going to come and see us and pay
hard earned cash then the least that we can do as a band is be properly
rehearsed"

Never being one to miss an opportunity I decided to stick my head out of
the stage door to have a look at the crowd in the packed out Temple Bar
Music Centre" there was an obvious electric atmosphere in the air as the
crowd waited for Jaded Sun"s first return to their live duties since
polishing off their new "Blueblood EP".

After a short delay Jaded Sun finally ambled up on stage and seemed to be
in high spirits and after another short knob twiddling delay they burst in
their opening tune with the apt title of "quot"Do It Again"quot" and the reason why
it""039"s apt" Simply because after listening to John Maher"s very powerful
voice in the opening bars you are forced to do a double take at the
quality of his voice. It""039"s also obvious that the rhythm section is very
tight and more importantly doesn""039"t over bear on the quality of any of the
tunes although every now and again fleeting moments of their true playing
ability seem to emerge particularly in the stomping driving tune better
known as "quot"Paranoid"quot" which brings a refreshing change to see an obvious
guitar driven band take a back seat and let the bass and percussion
section take some of the limelight.

Maher gave his performance everything from the very start and the rest of
the band soon followed as they became infected with his energy and by the
time the final tune kicked in the whole band were giving it their all
complete with windmill strums and a fierce duel solo to wrap up the nights
proceedings.

Jaded Sun has a reputation for being an exciting live band and judging by
tonights performance it certainly seems like a well earned one. Maher is
one of the most energetic front man that I""039"ve ever come acorss and he""039"s
equipped with an incredibly powerful voice and the band seem to be picking
up new fans all the time. "In fact" says Eorann "we had this guy who came
all the way from Wales to check out one of our gigs as he"d seen us during
a weekend away".that"s the kind of stuff that makes you wanna play in a
band and make it big" and make no mistake about it Jaded Sun are fully
intent of going no"where but the top.
