A band that played oxegen last year is always going to get my attention whether I"ve heard of them or not. Rulers Of The Planet on the other hand is a name I"ve been hearing quite a bit. In fact as I find myself standing in An Br"g to see and hear what everyone"s been talking about I feel like they are going to tell me just why there is so much commotion.

The band stand there in typical rock pose and seem to be looking around to check if everyone is ready" then all of a sudden bang" Everyone is hit with a wall of sound that they are going to hear whether they like it or not" Out comes this cry of non"stop rock that becomes so infectious it swallows the whole crowd who are by now smiling and bopping away to their delight. They have come to conquer and have definitely delivered taking over the whole place and making it theirs.

The band launch into the first two songs Traveller and Things fall without so much as the slightest pause. Next comes energetic but amiable Backbencher "available to download for free from their website" where singer Barry"s vocal talent begins to shine through. This man is crazy".I mean crazy in the rock"n"roll sense. He doesn"t just stand there and do his piece. He is singing his heart out while looking around like a complete madman not sparing anyone with his demented gaze. This guy really brings everything you could want to the table. I"m talking about flair" energy" madness" lung capacity and an ability to both please you with his talent and scare you because you don"t know what he is about to do next. Take for example when he decides that the small stage on offer is simply not enough and he launches himself off it. Throughout the night he can be seen prowling around tables getting everyone involved to singing in your face to lying down on the ground like a martyr to the music. Unbelievable"

Around halfway through the set he starts to ask "What the fuck are you staring at""" isn"t it obvious" your crazy we"re staring at you" He also gets time to thank "all the scumbags who keep coming to our gigs" glad to see your not wearing tracksuits lads" it suits ye""" a comedian as well"
Not to say that this man is the whole show but he is a great frontman for a band that can equal if not better other bands in Cork at the moment" I can now see why they played oxegen last year. Songs like Phone No. could easily be mistaken as Motorhead" while Jesus freak "also available to download" may sound like Rage Against The Machine with funky bass hidden in between big rock chords" another got drunk well it"s a story about when someone got drunk innit". This band has found the magic mixture that could see them propelled to a higher level. They catch you up and drop you and you will want more. The album is in the shops"
