Considering that Mr.Rice"s former band mates haven"t released anything
new in two years" there was an air of anticipation in the sold out
Savoy tonight. New album" Flock
won"t be with us until autumn but that hasn"t prevented the hordes of
fans braving the stormy weather in hope of hearing some new material
that could end up being the soundtrack to our 2005.

And they weren"t disappointed. Bell X1 were always a top flight
band live. But judging by the new songs" they"re about to join the
Champions League. Opener Monkey 61"
which was also played at Oxygen" is a quirky" mid"paced number that The
Frank "amp" Walters would be proud of. Flame on the other hand is an
indie boy"s wet dream. Infectious chorus" clever lyrics and a tune that
deserves to be danced to at Freakscene in between Blister In The Sun and Here Comes Your Man.

What"s also noted about tonight"s gig is the performance of lead singer
Paul Noonan. The man can"t keep still. Imagine if Glen Hansard started
drinking whatever Pete from The Hives takes. He"s like a man possessed"
all enthusiastic dancing and clapping as if 900 weren"t looking at him"

They do" of course" play some of the older stuff tonight. Alphabet Soup has the front ten rows pogo"ing " "I"ll See You"re Heart"".ignites a mass sing along and Tongue is performed in way everyone wishes Radiohead would play these days.

The band finish their set with a rousing Snakes "amp" Snakes
but what they should give us are ladders and ladders" coz us fans are
going to need them to reach the heights that this great band are going
to reach by the end of this year.
