A long "long" while back I review a gig where our friends Home Star Runner played along in Radio City" and the audience seemed pretty keen for them. And they seemed pretty happy with the review. Then they went missing" and people were curious as to if the whole band fell down a massive hole. Well according to them" they fell into a recording studio and have been making their debut single and album the past few months. Their first single Photogenic from the newly released album Kill the Messenger was in shops on the 12th October" and a launch gig was hosted at the Voodoo Lounge on the 13th" with bands like Boy Turns Hero" The Reveries" Red River and Little Nightmare to accompany.
After getting emails from both Home Star Runner and Steer Clear about the release gig party" I popped into the darkly lit Voodoo while Boy Turns Hero was half way through a short acoustic set. The pop punk band with roots from the tunes and beats of the dancefloors" two/three " I think it changed half way through the set" of them for the acoustic" seemed quite energetic even though they seemed to be having a few problems with the sound" but it was soon fixed. The band is now hoping and planning on releasing an E.P. Hope to see them soon playing a full and electronic set.

The Reveries appeared on stage and gave us all a great set for a new band on the scene. Many new folks on stage always try and get through the songs as quickly as possible" or are the complete opposite. The Reveries gave a mix of it" playing indie inspired tunes and having a bit of a laugh while bartering the lead vocalist"s hat.
He kept the hat after turning down an offer of 20 euros" but the audience seemed pretty happy with what they received from them anyway.
The sweetly named Red River brought a contrast to the music of the completely different Reveries before them. It was the first chance to give the gig crowd some mosh music" and they obviously understood it was just that. From music that has inspiration from both Iron Maiden and Metallica" with a twist of their own" the crowd really received them well. Along with a couple members from the other bands getting into the small circle pits that frontman Johnny B requested.
"And aaah go on and guess where they might of gotten the name of their trio." http://www.myspace.com/redriverirl
At this moment" both you and me are probably thinking where the hell are the girls" Most were wandering round the side of the stage waiting for the next act to appear" and we did get a pretty up and coming band on stage with an unparalleled femme touch. With songs like Chase Music and Fiction" the 5"piece band Little Nightmare very nearly stole the show with their sound. It"s pretty much like someone kidnapped a cooler Kelly Clarkson and asked her to play with a band that takes inspiration from nearly everywhere on the rock scene" in the superior way. It"s like Nightwish never discovered they could use a full orchestra behind them" but decided to improve their music anyway with a bit of punk.

Home Star Runner opened with new song Sonny" and nearly all band members from earlier positioned themselves in and around the audience to start a punk pit. The band played a lot more new and diverse songs from the last time I saw them in the basement of Radio City" but still kept their sound that"s influenced by groups like Jimmy Eat World" Green Day and the like. Along with a lot of the gleaming new tracks from Kill the Messenger" old songs were pulled up from the ashes like Game Over and Go Get"m Joey Greco" and it seemed a few fans of the band had made the trip out to see them play" dancing and seemingly singing along to the blasting sound system" only to die down when someone pointed out a Fair City actor among the crowd.
The single Photogenic" played towards the end of the nicely played set" is punky and pretty upbeat" and is similar to the bands" mix of influences and that of Fall Out Boy" but with heavier and faster guitars. Home Star Runner is a band that is now hovering above the teen underground sound scene" and now just around that of the music on the CD racks of twenty some things" is bound to break through to the radio waves soon.
