Cork based band Neon Flea Circus release their debut EP on May 31st. Neon Flea
Circus"s sound has been described as blues/retro funk/psychedelic rock.
"Candyfloss for the mind." Influenced by the likes of Stevie Wonder" Jimi
Hendrix" Traffic" Santana" Peter Green" Rory Gallagher" Gil Scott Heron" Small
Faces" Neon Flea Circus resurrect forgotten genres and give them a modern
twist. The musical musings of the Neon Flea Circus is intelligent jazz/blues
pop that transcends the often banal landscape of modern alternative rock. The
sound is light"hearted and energetic" with all the sophistication of the finely
crafted songs of yore.
The first thing that strikes when listening to the band" is the absence of the
three"minute" three"chord structure that so typifies many of songs being pushed
on the market of late. Instead" you will find a layered" multi"faceted band
turning their hands at a number of styles and genres with a maturity that
defies their youthful age.

Forbidden Fruit" the song that leads off their new EP : "Go for the Juggler"" is
a hard funky/disco tune with a solid organic sound that will have you
subconsciously tapping your foot "or dancing if your so inclined" along with
the driving rhythm.
Next up is the jazzy and quirkily titled: Adventures in Pork Pie Pants" a song
that would fit in quite snugly on some of the Van Morrison offerings from the
late "60s. This runs into the short instrumental circus"waltz: Ode to a
Moneylender.

King Leer "Or how I learned to kill two stones with one bird" is a tongue in
cheek" groovy little number" that climaxes in a furious instrumental" before
settling back down with a cheeky little punch line. This song is could be said
to give a nod and big cockney"wink to Steve Marriott and the Small Faces.
Studio Blues "as the name might imply" is the sound of the band turning its hand
at a driving"raw blues number. Smothered in guitar and organ solos" this high
paced song is another toe"tapper.

Rounding off the bands debut EP is the upbeat Love your Neighbour" a lush piano
driven funk song that lyrically takes a little bite at many modern day
hypocrisies "but in keeping with the bands ethos" done in a most un"scathing
way".
