CPU.ie Presents
Malicious Damage night for The Dublin Fringe Festival
I missed the Spiegeltent so much that I decided to head to the big smoke. As always with the Spiegeltent there was so much to choose from. Los Albertos to the legendary Mr. Scruff" How was I gonna choose"16 nights of "unashamed" unabashed" unadulterated sound and vision". Then I saw it Malicious Damage featuring Transit Kings" Belka and Strelka" Analogue Mindfield and The Orb. There it was" the ultimate pick and mix night" I was gonna get my groove on to some reggae" hear some jazz piano played over ambient trance beats" and hop around like a maniac to a lil bit of dub. The nice lads from CPU had an envelope with my name on it waiting at the door. Inside was a ticket to a night I will never forget"
The aptly named Belka and Strelka started off the night with a sound only to be described as early square pusher/jazz/trance/acid/house "but not acid house if ya get my drift". These guys just kept on giving and giving I heard some great jazz piano and live electric guitar"..just a few bar chords" extremely expensive equipment and the right attitude".I was in awe" The next act Analogue Mindfield were brought onstage to collaborate" This is too much" While Analogue Mindfield were weaving elements of Trip"Hop" Reggae" Drum and Bass and Ambient" I decided that my sobriety was the only fault I had with the night. Transit Kings" these guys have to be good" I mean these guys are Ambient House" We were treated to Alex Paterson spinning the decks" Jimmy Cauty" Guy Pratt on Bass and Dom Beken" savage"
Then it all came together The Orb".erm"" and the rest of the lads. It was very hard to distinguish who was who on the night due to the amazing collaborations. But yeah this was unmistakably The Orb. The music said it all. These lads needed no introduction" they spliced sections of pop with trance supported by heavy duty bass lines and took it to God like parameters" The tent came to a stop" everyone put theirs hands in the air" a little section of Little Fluffy Clouds floated out of the speakers" unbelievable" Accompanying the bangin" tunez on the night were cleverly synced trippy visuals.
The night can only be summed up in one statement:
It was like going to a sweet shop" not knowing what to choose and your mam says""""""
"Have it all""
