God is an Astronaut
Live at The Village
The buzz that has been created by God is an Astronaut in recent times has deceived many to believe that they are more than just another Irish band" running the Irish circuit. And from witnessing the bands live show before" its hard to believe just how far ahead of the competition this band actually are. But what I couldn"t understand for this particular gig was that there was barely any promotion for it" as opposed to the amazing sell out gig in the Temple Bar Music Centre a couple of months previous. In fact the only promotion evident was through the wonderful world of myspace.com.
9p.m in The Village and all is still dead" but all becomes evident as I observe the crowd slowly arriving into the almost empty venue" Short skirts" high heals" rugby shirts" a sea of bleached hair"".It has to be a student night" And it was" for Colaiste Dhulaigh. It became ever more evident as each support made their way to the stage" that the organisers had fulfilled a favour or two for support group friends.
First to the stage was some effort of a singer songwriter. Obviously" his first gig" or what it may seem. Didn"t even catch the guys name" and didn"t care either. Next up were Pearl Jam" well so it looks. But as it transpired" it was Murder of Crows" which were pretty good" but just missed out on the Seattle scene renaissaunce a few years ago. They look the part" act the part" especially with the Stone Gossard hair swinging with guitar licks that used to make me weak. But I"m just holding off for Alice in Chains in the RDS this Summer" thank you very much for my fix of grunge.
Dry County once again play support to God is an Astronaut. The last time they did was that breathtaking gig in the Temple Bar Music Centre. At this stage" I need them to be good" just to hold my attention. Four bands on a night like this are just too much. This band do impress" but again its just the wrong crowd" and Dry County just didn"t vide of it" and this was blatently obvious.
Roll on God is an Astronaut" because at this stage I"m bored senceless. I"m a bit sceptical as to how this crowd of young trendies will react to the show. Although" if the music doesn"t catch their attention" the fantastic imagery and visual show will.
In true God is" style" the sound is perfect" the stage pressence gives an ever on " stage dominance" in a way that the band look to be so comfortable on the stage that they look like they don"t even need to be there. God is an Astronaut are one of the most professional live Irish act ever witnessed. Even to this sea of this Dutch Gold filled lunatics.
