There is no underlining purpose or message in this song other than have a party, rock out and enjoy it!

Dublin born and bread Jaded Sun are great, they’re absolutely fecking brilliant actually. Why are they so great? Because they play good old fashioned, down right dirty rock ‘n’  fuckin’ roll, and they play it well. Although Irish people and rock music have a long happy history together, we’ve let ourselves lapse over the last few years but all thats going to change if bands like these guys have their way.

After releasing their critically acclaimed debut, Gypsy Trip last year, they’ve been touring constantly around Ireland, the UK and Europe thrilling audiences, proving that they are not another cheap American blues rock rip off and are in fact, the real deal.

Now the band are about to begin the next phase of extending their fan base with the release of the album’s third single, Higher later this month and as far as this writer is concerned, it should do the trick.

Although Gypsy Trip is jam packed with songs of equal brilliance, Higher is a real hard rock anthem styled ear pleaser. It doesn’t reek of the cleanliness and soberness that plagues bands like Black Stone Cherry and The Answer but it also hasn’t been coughed up from the bottom of a bottle of Jack Daniels which has been turned into the party’s ash tray.

The underlining purpose, or message, in this song is to have a party, rock out and enjoy it!

The underlining purpose, or message, in this song is to have a party, rock out and enjoy it!. The opening riff is similar to styles heard on Aerosmith’s early work with a few dashes of AC/DC for good measure. But the band brings something fresh that completes it and stops it from sounding forced. The verses are short, the bridges are melodic and the chorus will have you on the nearest stage air-guitaring along at twice the speed for good measure.

The solo’s, the lyrics and the whole flow of the song are so invigorating and pack such a punch that after one listen you will scratch your head trying to figure out how an Irish band managed to take this kind of sound and make it their own. How does anyone rework a sound that’s been around for almost forty years and suddenly make it fresh? Ask Jaded Sun because they know the secret.

Higher is released on September 28th and will be available from all major download sites and the Jaded Sun MySpace.
