intinn-2In what was simply a religious experience, Intinn launched their debut album at the Button Factory on Sunday night at the regular Worries Outernational gig. They quickly created a vibe of conscious music as the people began to feel the spirit Intinn flow through them. Tonight they launch in Cork, the place the band was spawned, a night the band are really looking forward to.

Hot off the stage at the Dublin launch Iarla (drums) and Cian (vocals and guitar) sit down with Drop-d to talk about their new album and where do they go from here.

Drop-d: How do you feel after that gig?

Cian: Ah great now, that was brilliant we had a huge crowd there, the crowd were really class, really responsive and a great buzz off them, yeah that was the best gig we’ve ever had in Dublin, you know what I mean it was brilliant, it was class.

Drop-d: Why did you have the album launch in Dublin?

Iarla: We’re having one in Cork as well and we’ve had one in Limerick and in Galway.

Cian: Well, we did the launch in Galway and we did the Horace Andy support in Limerick . We’re launching in Cork on the 24th in the Pavilion with Revelation Soundsystem, We’ll do a similar thing to tonight. Cork is kind of where we started so we’ve a really good following there.

we’re all skint anyway so it’s the way it had to be

Iarla: Yeah looking forward to that now.

Cian: Yeah big time.

Drop-d: What was it like supporting Horace Andy?

Cian: Aw, that was unreal! That was amazing!

Iarla: Yeah a privilege.

Cian: Yeah, that was a privilege that was a real blessing now, it was class like. A real inspiration, he’d be one of my musical heroes in a big way.

Iarla: He’s a big influence on us

Cian: We had the whole meal with the band and the crew and we were buzzing off them and they gave us loads of compliments after the gig, which was class, we gave them the CDs and everything. They were lovely people the whole band, the crew, there’s no ego’s like just really good people.

Iarla: Great organisation in the Limerick gig as well.

Cian: Yeah, there was the Roots Factory, dB Promotions, Fried Egg Promotions there’s like three or four groups in Limerick who got together to try to put on this, The Big Chillum they called it. There was Reggae all day then they had us, Horace Andy and they had Calibre, drum and bass DJ after, so they made a big event out of it which was brilliant because it got all the people there early, and sunshine and barbeque up top. It was a really good vibe.

intinnDrop-d: So how does it fell to finally have the album finished and out there, how long has it taken?

Iarla: Oh great yeah.

Cian: Nearly two years, it was two years in the making but really it was a year of solid kind of work, been two years on the trot altogether getting it together, it’s all original songs, we got the digipack, the cardboard cover so we got a really nice cover, the lyrics on a sleeve inside.

Iarla: We designed everything ourselves, produced it all ourselves, mastered it all ourselves and recorded it.

Cian: It was a bit of a DIY project now; well we’re all skint anyway so it’s the way it had to be. But it’s done now, we’re happy now, it’s great promoting the album, we got a huge crowd in Galway, a huge crowd in Dublin so we’re hoping for the same in Cork now. Then we’re hoping to get a vinyl printed up of the album, getting a couple of 10” soundsystem kind of things.

Drop-d: Where can people buy the album?

Cian: You can just buy it off us at the moment at the gigs but in about three weeks we’re going to have it for sale on our website, it’s www.intinnsound.com and www.myspace.com/intinn we’ll be selling there in about three weeks time.

Drop-d: So with all the work making the album behind you what’s the plan?

First thing is to the get the first album out there and send it off to other countries and try to spread the music as much as possible

Cian: Eh, the plan is to promote the music now, we’ll start on a new album in a couple of months when we finish doing the couple of gigs that we’re doing. We’ll start making the new album now, which is something we’ve wanted to do for ages. It was like the older songs that we’d be playing like Jamaican dancehall songs, heavy dub…

Iarla: The old rhythms…

Cian: The old rhythms that we wanted to do. We decided to do an original album as the first album and we’d touch on a lot of the things that we do live which is full of energy so we’re looking forward to the second album no, it’ll be class like. First thing is to the get the first album out there and send it off to other countries and try to spread the music as much as possible now and get enough bobs together to get more CDs and keep the ball rolling like and so things are great at the moment.

Drop-d: Do you play much outside of Ireland?

Cian: We’ve been to France, Italy at the Rototom Sunsplash, in Spain as well, in Barcelona, we’ve a couple of links over there now.

We’ve never had a manager so we’re a DIY kind of a buzz

Iarla: We’d like to get over to England.

Cian: Yeah, the UK definitely

Iarla: Northern Ireland, Scotland

Cian: Japan

Iarla: Yeah we’re looking forward to Japan

Cian: So we’re looking forward to the buzz now. We’ve never had a manager so we’re a DIY kind of a buzz. So now we’re hoping for it to step up another level now and want to start working with people to put us on tour and yeah pick it up.

Drop-d: What big Reggae producers would you like to work with?

Iarla: I think it was Russ Disciple we were asking to master our album but we never actually got a reply so maybe next time.

Cian: A lot of the UK guys like the Vibronics, the real masters of the heavy dub soundsystem, Manessa, Jah Tubby, the UK stuff and it would be amazing to work with some Jamaican produces as well now. The more the merrier now, we love the gigging and we love the music so we’re in it for the long run.
