Being based in Cork and displaying a great pride in the Cork scene of today, sometimes the history of the whole thing can seem ethereal, almost non-existent. But one gig that everyone of a certain age claims they were at was Sonic Youth at Sir Henry’s, supported by a band from Seattle called Nirvana, who had just released their debut album and were readying a second LP, tentatively titled Nevermind. The small gaggle of early attendees were amazed, as were any number of gig-goers early in Nirvana‘s career.
Nirvana‘s tour history was recently chronicled by our kin at Swear I’m Not Paul, and after much Twitter debate after a recent article in MOJO magazine, a bootleg of the Cork show has been unearthed, formerly part of the live bootleg mixtape, Put the Money Down. Incredible, is all the D can say, to finally clap ears on this and know what it was like to be at Sir Henry’s and be transported back to those rooms in 1991, just before the band and music we etched so indelibly on ourselves became immortal, and in our own backyard too. Inspiring, amazing, ethereal.

This has been freely available on the net for about five years now, no? If not longer. Not exactly a recent discovery!
Wouldn’t mind hearing the Sonic Youth set as well!
