Drop-d: Hello
Hi there.
Drop-d: How are you?
All good, very busy at the moment.
Drop-d: What’s happening?
I have just finished laying down the drums for the next Album.  Has been really enjoyable, very nice studio vibe.
Drop-d: What’s been happening since the debut album came out? You won quite a lot of critical acclaim for it, has it added much pressure for the new record? Or do you not let thoughts like that enter the creative process?
Things have been very busy following the Debut, the Band as it is now has really found it’s voice, having been touring and writing together for the last couple of years. I think the only pressure was to make sure we captured the live energy of the band for the new Album, but is was a good pressure.
Drop-d: On the EP will be be treated to more gems like Are You Coming For A Drink After Work, Princess? and The Pot’s Still Boiling On The Stove? Tell us everything about the new EP.
What can I say?  There are some really special tracks, that we are very proud of, wait and see….
Drop-d: So the name….. are you as classy as the porno magazine you take your name from? Do you, or have you ever in the past, owned a copy of said porno magazine and if yes, would you encourage your wife to appear in such a tasteful and quality magazine?
Yes and Yes
Drop-d: You’ve got a battle on your hands though because said porno magazine will always be on top in a Google search, or maybe that’s why you’ve called Readers Wives? To encourage horny men to listen to your music instead of having a tug while looking at amateur porn of other men’s wives?
Listen and tug!
Drop-d: So what would you say if someone asked you to describe the band in one word? And also one sentence?
Smart.   The energy of punk fused with the dark witty commentary, or something to that effect…
Drop-d: Niall has been called Dublin’s answer to Morrisey, God there’s enough depressed people in our nations capital, surely to Jaysus one Morrisey’s enough for the world. Credit where credits and all he’s a talented man but Niall ain’t that hardcore is he?
I think it is the lack of  interesting music  that has contributed to the city’s depression!  There is a similarity in so far as  the songs are  gritty and don’t pander to arse holes…
Drop-d: Best pint of stout in Dublin?
Grogans for sure.
Drop-d: Looking forward to getting your gig on again? Where you playing next?
We are doing a series of shows in London in Nov and we are playing in the Odessa Club on the 21st of Nov, Looking forward to them all.
Drop-d : Where’s the best place to play in Ireland?
We have some really good venues for a small country, personally, The Button Factory,  Crawdaddy, The Odessa Club, Róisín Dubh Galway.
Drop-d: Where are you more at home, the studio or on stage?
I like them both for different reasons, but playing live for sure.
Drop-d: How do the songs come about? Jam band or is there a head bottle-washer?
Jam, the new tracks on the new album are a team effort, has been a really nice process.
Drop-d: Give me your best and worst things about the Irish music scene.
Best: Great audiences.   Worst:  Lack of any real music industry support here.
Drop-d: What bands/soloists out there, grafting, have caught your ear lately?
Two Door Cinema Club (Northern Ireland)   Krakatoa (London)
Drop-d: The Irish music scene’s in a healthy state, discuss. Yeay or nay?
I think it is now that  everything has moved to the web, Irish artists are no longer isolated.
Drop-d: What’s next for the band?
EP release tour,  finish the new Album….
Drop-d: Any plans for world domination or would you prefer to bring peace to the world though your music?
Top secret!

Following on from Drop-d‘s recent interview with Chris Morrin we now give Doug Farrell our D style going over in part 2 of our series of interviews with the members of one of Dublin’s finest, Readers Wives.
