Cork: Rock City‘s weighty line-up has been bolstered yet again with the addition to the upcoming compilation of punks Stanton’s Grave, who will be contributing an exclusive version of live favourite TV Zombie, recorded at Tony‘s house (as seen in the picture). The band’s blog features an extensive entry on the recording of the new track, as well as songwriting differences between this and the original version. Find it here. A fascinating read. :-D

As well as this, Cork thrash veterans Flatline head up the latest batch of tracks confirmed for the release, contributing Blud Kudgel from their second album, Bleed Toward New Ground. Shortly after reforming from a two-year break, Cork’s flag-bearers for thrash played a tribute gig to Megadeth at Fred Zeppelin’s the night before that band’s big Cork show, only to be joined by… Megadeth themselves, with the band’s own hero Dave Mustaine incredibly joining in the fun! The band have an E.P. coming out soon to mark their revival, and any self-respecting thrasher would be a fool to miss out on it…

As also touched upon, noise heavies Mersk, a collective of improv musicians with an ever-shifting line-up, has also contributed a piece, The Sea of Okhotsk. Mersk have been in existence now since 2008, and with a sound that alters by the show, and a line-up that has featured some of Cork’s most cutting-edge and musically-literate talent, is one of Cork’s most exciting and challenging musical entities. Joining Mersk will be Cork MC/beatmaker Spekulativ Fiktion, with a cut from his new E.P. released recently on Bandcamp, and solo electro project Commandot, as well as tracks upcoming from Versives, and the dearly departed Plinth.

Keep it here for more regular updates and stories about the bands behind the music as we head toward November 1st and the release of Cork: Rock City!
