Alias Empire, Club AC30, Whelan’s

Club Ac30 gave the public yet another unforgettable night on Friday with a thunderous performance from the most innovative electronic outfit in Ireland Alias Empire.
Le Galaxie warmed up the crowd but seemed to forget the Alias Empire had a new name by telling the crowd to look forward to Dry County. The grid vs guitar group, celebrating their recent debut EP release, were as energetic as ever bearing synths, guitar, vocoder tricks and a sound that needs a laser light show.

Dispersed percussion pieces, six keyboards, two guitars, some kaoss pads and a key-tar, which inspired memories of Pugwall, occupied the stage before the (formally known as Dry County) ensemble came out from behind the curtain to give the Whelan’s soundsystem the treatment it deserves.
Electro beats, shoegazey vocals, rocked-up dance and some Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger bombarded the crowd for the entirety of the AE set, many members of the audience were torn between dancing and moshing which left some in a peculiar graceful jumping motion.
Known for the visuals Alias Empire gave the audience a stunning, in time with the music, viewing experience of animations, video samples and some chorus sing-along aides.
The band captivated the Dublin audience with their inventive use of programming and synths with rock overtones, one of the guitarists got so intense that it looked like the music was going to give him a seizure before a sudden jolt had him back at the keys.
The band gave a set filled with tracks from their Choice-nominated debut album Unexpected Falls, but the music was louder and had more of a dance vibe in the live setting. They also did an interesting and astonishing reworking of Daft Punk’s Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger and gave the crowd a few glimpses of their new material which makes for a promising future for this Dublin electro outfit.
Although with no plans to gig again soon, due to the upcoming release of Unexpected Falls in the UK and recording their second album, when they play again they’ll be on the road for world domination.
